ROGUE FARMS 7 HOP IPA

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
STYLE: India Pale Ale FOOD PAIRING: Beef, Spicy

TASTING NOTES: Beer begins in the dirt. In a bold collaboration with Mother Nature, we grow 7 varieties of aroma hops at Rogue Farms in Independence, OR. We also string, stake, train, test, trim, separate, sort, kiln and cool them. Brewmaster John Maier had 7 varieties available, but rather than picking from among them, he chose all 7 to create a proprietary palate for 7 Hop IPA.

Pour into snifter with a rosy-gold body and off-white lingering head. Aroma of fresh pine, resiny citrus, but most notably, an extraordinarily fresh floral scent in there (almost like sticking your face into a fresh bouquet) plus a very unique juiciness. Flavor is quite drinkable for the variety of hops used. Medium bodied with a subtle earthy bottom end, floral astringency, not-overly-resiny ripe citrus. Palatable mouthfeel for a double. Fresh/local hops truly highlighting unique flavors/scents other beers could never achieve. I’m a fan.

13 INGREDIENTS: Rogue Farms DareTM, RiskTM, Maier & DareTM R-3 Malts; Rogue Farms Liberty, Newport, Revolution, Rebel, Independent, Freedom & Alluvial Hops; Pacman Yeast & Free-Range Coastal Waterr

Port Brewing Mongo IPA

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

A tribute beer brewed to honor the memory of our fallen soldier Columbus (nicknamed Mongo) who used each of his 9 lives in his short (but brazen) ten months on this planet. The initial taste reveals notes of Orange, Mango and citrus fruits with a piney bitterness and hoppy spice with some mild malt flavors on the finish. Hop Valley Vanilla Infused Porter

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vanilla beans are added to the conditioning tank in this robust porter, giving the bittersweet notes a well-founded finish. IBU: 50

APPEARANCE: Clear, light brown pour yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, fluffy, off-white head with good retention. Clear brown body with no carbonation evident. Light colored, even for a regular porter. More like a brown ale in body. Head slowly fades to a full foamy cap and clings to the sides abit. Splotchy wisp with some traces of lacing down the glass. Decent head and lacing, but the body is too light for the style.

SMELL: Some dark malts, nuts, light milk chocolate and some vanilla notes on the nose. Some leather in there as well. Medium strength, and the vanilla is well measured. Base porter is a little light on the burnt and dark grain aromas though.

TASTE: Some darker malt notes, leather, nuts and vanilla up front. A bit of sweet toffee at the swallow as well, then a bolder and lingering finish of leather, some milk chocolate, vanilla notes and touches of toffee as well. Sweet, with a bit of burnt bitterness on the finish as well. Okay.

PALATE: Thinner body and slightly higher carbonation. Creamy but a little light on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a touch dry.

OVERALL: Alright, and the vanilla is done nicely, but the base porter is a little lack luster perhaps. A little more of the burnt malt qualities would be nice here. A decent drink, but not something worth seeking out per se.
